In today's post I will present you the Corsican gastronomy ! To all my foodies : be prepared my today's selection of Corsican specialities will awaken your taste buds😋 I will present you all these tasty foods in 3 different categories (Sweet and Salty tooths, that's for you!).
〜 CHARCUTERIE 〜
♡ W H A T A R E T H E C H A R C U T E R I E S T O T R Y ?
🐚 The Charcuterie, is for me the MUST try in Corsica. It is so flavorful with a unique taste that you will not find anywhere else... Here are my little selection of charcuterie that are worth a try :
The most famous one ! (and my favorite😋). This dry sausage, made of pig faith, is parfumed with a lot of spicies, garlic and sometimes wine ! Smoked or dry it's in a "U" shape and can be enjoyed cooked or raw.
My tips ? Grill it on the barbecue and eat it on fresh bread... DELICIOUS !
Lonzu is a true icon of Corsica. Made with the lean part of the pig, it is washed in wine and seasoned with salt and pepper. This mettle smoked taste is really appreciated by Corsicans.
My tips ? Eat it as an appetizer with a little Corsican beer : Pietra. Originally from Italy, the Coppa is an artisanal product of Corsica. Realized from pork echinace, it's salted and perfumed with pepper before being dried during several months.
My tips ? Eat it raw and cut it in really thin slices to fully enjoy the taste.
〜 CHEESE 〜
♡ W H A T A R E T H E C H E E S E S P E C I A L I T I E S T O T R Y ?
🐚Brocciu is THE cheese of Corsica, it will be a sacrilege if you go to Corsica without tasting it ! The best period to eat it is between December and April. Creamy and melty it has a sweet taste...Made with ewes' milk it's better to consume it after a meal as a light desert.
My tips ? Eat it with a spoon of Corsican honey to enhance the sweet taste, What a PLEASURE !
〜 SWEET 〜
♡ W H A T A R E T H E C A K E S A N D B I S C U I T S T O T R Y ?
🐚My favourite part of Corsican specialities, yes I have a sweet tooth🤍 Between cakes and biscuits, Corsica have a large selection but here are my 2 guilty pleasures :
Emblematic of Corsica these dry and crunchy biscuits are infinetly declinable (perfumed with chocolate, almonds, lemon...). In Corsica you eat these at teatime or even for breakfast with a coffe. They're made of white wine, sugar and flour, that's it !
My tips ? Buy the bags with the picture of an old person on it (advice from my grand-mother😂)
Finally, another I love, the chesnuts cake. This is a traditional of Corsica, made with chesnuts flour this subtle taste brings amazing flavours.
My tips ? Eat this cake as a desert with a little vanilla ice cream on side.
Les canistrelles au vin blanc. Simple et excellent avec un café.
ReplyDeleteParfois les choses simples sont les meilleures... :p
DeleteBrocciu is the most known cheese of Corsica. Its particular flavour is due to a defined addition of salt during heating of ewe's or goat's whey. It is consumed as a cheese or in delicious recipes of pastry
ReplyDeleteFor sure! Are you talking about Fiadone ? An excellent pastry really appreciated
DeleteCorsican "charcuterie is very well known in French hexagone and european countriesbecause of pig's husbandry and their feeding. Buying is often difficult because artisanal products are pre-sold one year in advance.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this additional information, really interesting to know
ProfJLM
